» TamsenTillson - Brandon Routh as Superman
So Fred, do you mean that this Superman doesn't take himself/itself as seriously as the Christopher Reeve version? In your blog it sounds like the contemp Superman is lighter, but in your article it sounds like serious stuff; Routh ruminating about what he's going to save while flying from a to b and all that....I was speaking with James Hughes (Film Dramas) about Superman, I think this Brandon Routh fella looks kind of young/boyish to fill Supe's shoes. His pecs look padded under that jumpsuit. (But then again, I suspect Reeves' were as well.)
James said that Routh is more of a man's man, and that he has been billed as "the gayest superman ever." Big market there.
So then I was thinking that Reeve is the older woman's Superman and Routh is the younger woman's and gay guy's man of steel?
Have you heard anything about how the actors playing Superman resonate with auds?

In response to Brandon Routh as Superman posted by TamsenTillson:I in no way meant to indicate that Superman Returns has contempt for Superman. The gags I meant are the elaborate super rescues which I cannot spoil at this early stage.
As for actors' comments, there's no connecting an actor's process with the filmmaker's intention. They're completely different animals. I just report the news, I don't judge it. ![]()
As for the gay thing, the only reason anyone mentions the word is that the director of the film is out. Since I wouldn't call Superman Jewish if Spielberg directed it, it seems irrelevant to address a sensationalized campaign based on pundits who haven't even seen the film.
As for the young/older issue? That's an interesting point. I imagine if you grew up with Reeve, anybody in the contemporary age seems young. But the film truly fits in continuity and the people who have seen it comment that they felt like they were watching the same actor.
Thanks,
Fred
