Every holiday season movie audiences have come to expect prominent film releases and this season will be no exception.
Here is a handful of the films that audiences can expect to see in the days leading up to, and including, Christmas.
American Gangster
Release date: November 2nd, 2007

Starring: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Plot synopsis: Washington plays the role of Frank Lucas, a 1970s driver for one of Harlem's leading black crime bosses. After his boss suddenly dies, Lucas rises through the ranks building his own criminal empire and becomes the ruler of the inner-city drug trade. Crowe portrays Richie Roberts, the outcast detective who suspects a new player has entered the drug-trade scene and commits himself to bringing him down at any cost.
Noteworthy fact: Based on the true story of Lucas, who used the coffins of soldiers killed in the Vietnam War to smuggle heroin back to the United States.
Bee Movie
Release date: November 2nd, 2007

Starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Matthew Broderick
Plot synopsis: This animated comedy follows the adventures of Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld), a disenchanted bee who, after graduating from college, laments the fact that he has only one career choice - honey. After leaving the hive for the first time and breaking the rules by speaking to a human, New York City florist Vanessa (Zellweger), he discovers that humans have been stealing and eating the bees' honey for hundreds of years. He then decides to set the world straight by suing the humans for their wrongdoing.
Noteworthy fact: This is the first motion picture written by Seinfeld. He shared writing credits with Andy Robin, Barry Marder, and Spike Feresten, former writers for the Seinfeld television show.
Fred Claus
Release date: November 9th, 2007

Starring: Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Kathy Bates, Kevin Spacey
Plot synopsis: Vaughn stars as Fred Claus, a disgruntled man who has lived his entire life in the prominent shadow of his older brother, Nicholas Claus (Giamatti). While the old jolly saint Nick became the true embodiment of Christmas, Fred became an insensitive repo man who proceeded to steal anything he repossessed. His actions get him thrown in jail and his brother offers to bail him out on one condition: that he moves back to the North Pole and redeems himself by making toys. The comedy ensues as Fred struggles to adapt to life as an elf and threatens to steal Christmas itself.
Noteworthy fact: Dobkin previously directed Vaughn in Wedding Crashers.
Beowulf
Release date: November 16th, 2007

Starring: Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, Crispin Glover
Plot synopsis: This ancient tale follows the warrior Beowulf (Winstone) in his quest to slay the demon Grendel (Glover) and fend off the attack of Grendel's vengeful and monstrous mother, played by Jolie.
Noteworthy fact: Beowulf co-writer Roger Avary frequently collaborated with Quentin Tarantino early in their careers on scripts for such films as Reservoir Dogs, True Romance,and Pulp Fiction.
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Release date: December 14th, 2007

Starring: Jason Lee, Simon, Theodore, ALVIN!
Plot synopsis: Lee stars as David Seville in this computer-graphic/live-action adaptation of the 1980s cartoon of the same name that has him caring for three mischievious and musical chipmunks led by the always-frustrating Alvin.
Noteworthy fact: The trailer for the film shows a montage of crowds from contemporary archival footage to illustrate the popularity of the trio and includes footage from the Hillsborough disaster, where 96 people died.
