The A-Team TV Show goes to the Movies in 2010

New Cast Remakes the Classic Action Program for the Big Screen

Nov 1, 2009 Christopher Clayton

The story of four mercenaries with hearts of gold is set to hit the big screen. Is the new cast ready to fill the shoes of the past greats?

As we approach 2010, we are getting closer to the reincarnation of the A-Team. The new cast is stepping into the roles of classic TV show legends. Below is a short glimpse of what these actors will face.

Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith

Originally played by George Peppard, Liam Neeson was cast as the leader of the A-Team. As Hannibal, Peppard demonstrated an unorthodox style in designing plans that always managed to benefit the team and reach the desired results. Hannibal was always cool headed and was able to think he way out of almost every situation.

Hannibal was portrayed as a master of disguises. He would meet potential clients in disguise in order to test their credibility and weed out potential military traps. Hannibal was know by his trademark cigar and black gloves. He used the cigar in difficult situation to relax and focus while developing a plan. The black gloves were a precursor to a fight in which Hannibal was able to anticipate.

Sergeant Bosco “B.A” Baracus

According to reports, this role was written specifically for Mr. T. For the movie, this role will be played by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson of UFC fame. B.A. was the team mechanic. He was also the muscle of the group. Mr. T. created a cultural icon with his ability to play the tough fighter of the group. B.A. often served as the last resort for the team but this was a secondary talent.

His true skill was as a mechanic. He would construct all of the weapons, equipment, and machines needed by the team every episode. Even more impressive is that these items were often made by scrap pieces and junk. With all of his physical prowess, he did display one weakness. B.A. was afraid of flying and would need to be tricked in order to board planes for the latest destination of the team.

Captain H. M. “Howling Mad” Murdock

Filling the role of Dwight Schultz will be Sharlto Copley. Murdock as he was known on the show was the team pilot. Considered to be one of the best people in the air, he could fly any vehicle capable of achieving lift. He was considered mentally unstable and resided in the VA hospital at the start of each episode. Those glimpses of brilliance, it appears that his diagnosis is a clever ploy he used to maintain his freedom from the military.

Murdock has the ability to impersonate many individuals and can speak several languages. He often uses these skills to the benefit of the team. Because of his diagnosis, he often is overlooked by the military when the team is cornered. When clear, he amazingly finds a moment of clarity in which to free his fellow teammates. While a valuable part of the team, each episode begins with the team needing to free him from the hospital that he resides.

Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck

Bradley Cooper will have to do double duty, officially replacing two previous actors. Tim Dunigan starred in the pilot episode but Dirk Benedict’s character is the one most widely known. Faceman, or Face is known for his good looks and his ability to talk his way into getting anything he wants or needs.

Face gets all of the equipment for the team no matter where they happen to be at that time. He is also solely responsible for freeing Murdock from his hospital confinement. While most proficient in gaining the trust of women, Face has shown an almost equal ability in his interactions with men to gain what he wants from them.

The new cast has a lot of live up to in comparison to the previous actors. Hopefully the story will provide the action necessary to bring all of the elements of the original A-Team together. Only time will tell if this new movie incarnation will bring the classic characters back into the mainstream.
