Quantum of Solace: Canada, US & UK Release Dates
New 007James Bond Movie Opens in Cinemas for Fall 2008

The eagerly anticipated James Bond blockbuster, Quantum of Solace will be released in Canada and the USA on November 14, 2008, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The original release date of November 7th was put back by Sony Pictures after it was announced that the new Harry Potter film – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was postponed until July 2009, instead of its planned date of November 21st, 2008. This leaves the field wide open for Sony’s latest 007 licensed-to-thrill flick, with the movie now having very little real competition at the box office over the forthcoming holiday season.
Bond Movie World Premier in London
The first to see the latest 007 offering will be guests at the 52nd London Film Festival on October 29th, 2008 at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square. Stars of Quantum of Solace will attend, including Daniel Craig, new Bond Girl, British Actress, Gemma Arterton, 22 (who plays Agent Field,) and Dame Judi Dench, the matriach of the British film industry, who returns in her role as M. It will be the first time a Bond movie has featured in the film festival.
Royal heirs to the British throne, Princes William and Harry will also be at the London premier. They have requested that the proceeds from the event to go to the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes, a charity which was launched in October 2007 to help wounded servicemen and women.
Quantum of Solace will open on general release to the British public on Friday October 31st, 2008. There will be also be special screenings at a Charity Gala in Glasgow, Scotland and Hereford on Thursday October 30th.
International Release Dates
Sony Pictures Entertainment has also announced a release date of November 7th, 2008 in India, (a week earlier than the U.S.) in order to coincide with the Diwali holiday. Screen Daily.com quotes Kercy Daruwala, managing director of Sony Pictures Releasing India as saying, "Previously all markets other than the UK were to have a day-and-date release on November 7, but the US division has postponed its release by a week. November 7 works for us in India because we can still capitalize on the tail end of the Diwali vacations."
Quantum of Solace is released in most countries in Europe, Asia, The Middle East and South America between November 5th and 7th, 2008. Japanese fans will have to wait a little longer as the movie is not due for release in Japan until January 24, 2009.
Quantum of Solace – the Movie
This is the 22nd film in the Bond franchise and follows directly on from the last movie, Casino Royale; the biggest grossing Bond flick so far at over $600 million. The success of Daniel Craig in Casino Royale as a more down-to-earth rough-edged Bond (he even does his own stunts), silenced critics who thought his image may not be in keeping with novelist, Ian Fleming’s traditionally suave and sophisticated special agent.
The story continues where Casino Royale left-off, with Bond having to come to terms with the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd.
In Quantum of Solace, director Marc Forster shows the audience a very different Bond; more vulnerable, flawed and embittered. According to USA Today, in their April 4th, 2008 article “James Bond Series Takes a Quantum Leap”, 007, who had his heart broken by the death of Lynd, finds out she was not who she said she was. USA Today quotes 007 actor Craig as saying, “He's out for revenge. But he's also out to find — and this is what the title is about — a "quantum of solace.'" Something has been taken away from him, and he's out to get that back."
Until the movie’s official release in a few more weeks, Bond fans the world over will have to wait with baited breath to see if he finds it!
