The 22nd Bond movie Quantum of Solace has premiered at London's Odean Leicester Square and is set for its British commerical relase on Friday October 31st.

The night was unseasonably chilly but this did not deter over 3000 fans waiting outside the Odeon Leicester Square to catch a glimpse of the cast and crew of the 22nd Bond movie, and Princes William and Harry, who were hosting their first Royal premiere.

Two hundred British soldiers, some of them recently wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan also lined the red carpet in support of the 2 charities that will benefit from the event — Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

The Cast and Guests

Daniel Craig, attended the premier complete with his right arm still in a sling, with his long-time girlfriend long-term girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell on the other arm. It has been two years almost to the day that the classic British actor and BAFTA nominee Daniel Craig wowed critics and Bond fans with his 007 debut in Casino Royale.

Other members of the cast attending the premier were Bond Girls Gemma Arteton and Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko. Dame Judi Dench, who plays M, graced the red carpet in a low cut black evening gown with a fake 007 jeweled tattoo on her neck.

Guests who bought tickets for the event included London’s Major Boris Johnson, Sir Bob Geldof, Mohammed Fayed, model Elle MacPherson.

Early Movie Reviews

Quantum of Solace has stepped away from the trademark one-liners and in doing so has lost some of its appeal. So far the first flurry of movie reviews have been warm although some have been mixed. The Daily Mail’s Christopher Tookey, in his October 22nd, 2008 article “Quantum of Solace: A Quantum of Nonsense,” describes the film as “the shortest yet, but feels like one of the longest.” Claiming he grew bored with the film, Tookey criticizes the script as making very little sense.” Whilst the stunts were impressive, he claims that whilst Craig is a very strong actor “he is not able to show the depth he did in Casino Royale.”

However, in praise of Daniel Craig, in a quote from “Finally it’s time for the Quantum of Solace premier” (Times newspaper - October 29, 2008) the Times’ chief film critic James Christopher believes “he has defined himself as a darker and more bare-knuckle Bond than any of his elegant predecessors”.

The David Edwards of the Daily Mirror also compares Quantum to Craig's first foray as Bond. Edwards early review of the movie says, "it doesn't disappoint - just don't expect the brilliance of Casino Royale."

Whatever the reviews Bond fans, who have been eagerly awaiting Quantum’s release, are sure to be won over. The film is the most expensive and bloodiest Bond movie so far, and has so many fights and car, motorbike and boat chases that it will make your eyes water.

Quantum of Solace Release Dates

Quantum of Solace will open in Canada and the USA on November 14th and will be released in most European, Middle Eastern and Asian countries sometime in the first week of November.
