Director Peter Segal brings Maxwell Smart and his leading lady, Agent 99, into the 21st Century with an action packed remake of the original comedic series.

Maxwell Smart is back after an extremely long break from the spy game. Get Smart, the original television series that aired in the 1960s, has been turned into a blockbuster movie and is now available on DVD and Blu-ray disc.

Kaos and Control

When Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is suddenly promoted to active secret agent in the Control organization and given the designation Agent 86 he stumbles into a world of espionage that all of his training hasn’t quite prepared him for. With his partner, sultry Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) by his side the juxtaposed pair take on Kaos. The evil organization is out to cause destruction and death, their usual M.O. Agents 86 and 99 swoop in to save the day by employing intelligence, training, creativity, and of course gadgets like the shoe phone. Between bumbling battles the pair of passionate covert spies find the time to fall in love.

Bring the Action Home

Recently released to DVD and Blu-ray fans can now bring Get Smart home to enjoy. With two ways to watch the movie there are even more laughs to be had. Viewers can watch the original theatrical version of the film or play the “Smart Takes” Comedy Optimization Mode. “Smart Takes” plays the full movie and reveals additional jokes for several scenes adding more than 45 minutes of laughs to an already hilarious movie. The innovative idea to add outtakes into the film as the scenes happen gives context to the alternative shots but makes the smooth movie choppy.

The Blu-ray version of Get Smart offers a long list of special features including the Comedy Optimization Mode. With the “I Hid It in the Movie” extra Get Smart buffs can see just what details from the original television series have been snuck into the film. Behind the scenes bonuses follow filming with stars Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway training to be secret agents, learning dance moves and working in Russia’s Red Square. There are even ‘Language Lessons’ with Steve demonstrating the humour of linguistics and a ‘Vomit Reel’ that gives an insider look at what it takes to get a perfect shot. The laughs are endless through the extra features.

Would You Believe

The Blu-ray set even comes with the exclusive video game Get Smart: Kaos Control DVD Game. Viewers can play as a Control secret agent for a day as they try to save a city from a Koas bomb. Also included is a Digital Copy of Get Smart that can be loaded onto both Macs and personal computers to be transferred to devices like iPods for laughs on the go.

Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin, Dwayne Johnson and all of the other actors that brought the television series to the big screen have given Get Smart a modern makeover. For the Get Smart aficionado the blockbuster movie is a must add for the private collection.
