James Bond returns in Quantum of Solace November 14th driving the Aston Martin DBS V12 a little harder than he did in Casino Royale.

The Aston Martin DBS V12 debuted alongside actor Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond as 007’s ride of choice in Casino Royale. Unlike Craig, the car failed to see much in the way of active duty. Can car enthusiasts and Bond fans alike look forward to more from the powerful coupe in the upcoming installment entitled Quantum of Solace? Get ready to hang on for the ride.

The last time audiences caught a cinematic peek at the latest Aston Martin Bond-mobile, agent 007 had ripped it to shreds in a maneuver avoiding a rude meeting of the car’s front bumper and his lady friend Vesper. Appropriately, the car completed seven full rolls before resting in a totaled mess.

Aston Martin and James Bond

While James Bond usually finds ways to pick himself up after a grueling chase, his cars do not share the same skill. Consequently, the reappearance of the same Aston Martin model in the successor film to Casino Royale comes as a surprise considering that Quantum of Solace picks up where Casino Royale leaves off.

According to the Aston Martin website, the DB5 model was the first Aston to star alongside Bond sharing the screen with the original 007, Sean Connery, in 1964’s Goldfinger. Subsequent cameos of the DB5 have occurred throughout the series including one in Casino Royale.

The Aston Martin DBS V12 appearing in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace carries the automaker’s reputation for power, performance, and the finest sophistication. Fittingly, Bond shares a similar reputation. Both portray elegance in their outer appearances which belie their muscle and agility. In Casino Royale however, the preamble leading to the car’s inevitable demise was decidedly weak.

The Chase

After a spectacular foot chase in Madagascar opened the story in Casino Royale, the Aston Martin DBS received little screen time for action of its own sort. Quantum of Solace, by the looks of two trailers available on the official site for the film, will put Craig behind the wheel for a classic, and perhaps reinvented, car chase.

The twelve cylinder luxury sports car deserves another chance to show off its capabilities. As a glorified first aid kit, the DBS spent more time during Casino Royale in a parking space than on the road. In the new film, audiences should taste a bit of the dust its 510 horsepower engine can kick up.

Q Branch must appreciate the array of electronic support gear Aston Martin already provides including stability control (to help balance aggressive driving), a tire pressure monitor (every chase puts someone on pins and needles), and a tracking device (to tell the tow truck where to pick up the pieces).

Daniel Craig and the Aston Martin DBS return to the screen in Quantum of Solace November 14th in the United States. For the car at least, the film should prove to be a smash.
